Kitchen Design Trends 2014
Kitchen design trends in 2014 have been heading towards simpler, more minimalist designs. Today’s kitchen designs, more than ever before, are clean, visually uncluttered, and very low maintenance. Unique and interesting materials on their own become much more important to keeping the space from falling flat. This is a reason we’re seeing a strong uptick in interest in rough-sawn woods, metallic, high-gloss and leathered finishes and exotic veneers. With these clean lined designs, precision manufacturing, quality of materials and installation have never mattered more, as there are no longer fussy details in which to hide potential flaws.
Where once designers relied on heavy ornamentation to make the design (heavy raised panel doors, reeded corners, fluting and lots of in & outs, ups & downs in the cabinetry), now it’s all about the materials themselves. Durable quartz countertops (like Caesarstone & Cambria) are actually overtaking granite as the more popular choice. Slab cabinet doors and drawer fronts, like Wood-Mode’s new textured laminate series, are easy to wipe down and work with a variety of styles.
We are seeing everything from soft transitional to rustic contemporary. Stylish materials, along with carefully thought out function, will continue to be the cornerstones of design heading into 2014.
